After watching Ben&Ben performed live exactly a month ago today, I still can’t get over the post-concert blues. I listen to their songs almost non-stop and imagining reliving the moments when I was (semi) dancing along to their songs. I am your typical awkward introvert (almost near the middle-extreme of the spectrum) and somehow, I felt comfortable among the singing, dancing, and jumping crowd! My best friend and I got Golden Circle tickets (it was her birthday), which made me question our decision at first since I was expecting that we will be surrounded by a much younger crowd and we won’t be actively participating as much anyway. I was wrong – it was indeed a younger crowd but we ended up enjoying singing, dancing and jumping amongst the ecstatic Ben&Ben fans (Liwanag), which we are now a part of, I think.
What better way to make this post-concert blues a productive one and incorporate it to my life as an illustrator than to illustrate the lyrics to one of their songs and animating the illustrations to create a music video.
I used Procreate for the illustrations and frame by frame animation and Photoshop for the final animation and video edits.
I haven’t really delved into animation yet so it took me quite some time to get to a slightly faster and more streamlined process. I decided to make the illustrations a simple as possible and focus more on the animation. I will definitely try to create more animated illustrations and probably more lyrics video.
Imagine how giddy I was when some of Ben&Ben’s creative team and band members (Pat and Agnes) liked my work-in-progress reel I posted on Instagram – definitely made my Liwanag heart happy.
COURAGE
Written by Paolo Benjamin & Miguel Benjamin
A song about our struggles
I wanna see the world
I wanna see the world through your eyes
I’ve been so blinded by the painful
Reality of life
I’m so tired
Am I a slave to my anxiety?
When will I finally be free
Will I find my release
I hear your voice,
Whispering to me
All your struggles will be worth it
In the end
Keep carrying on with courage
Your breakthrough is arriving
Until then
Keep carrying on with courage
Keep carrying on
Keep carrying
Keep carrying on
Don’t be scared
What have you got to lose?
Haven’t you heard the news
The war’s been won for us
Be prepared
The miracles for you
Are far greater than
the trials you’ve surpassed
Keep going my friend
Keep going
All your struggles will be worth it
In the end
Keep carrying on, with courage
Your breakthrough is arriving
Until then
Keep carrying on with courage
Keep carrying on
Keep carrying
Keep carrying on with courage
Keep carrying on
Keep carrying
Keep carrying on with courage
When the weight of your burdens
Makes it seem like your world’s ending
It’s okay to feel overwhelmed
But don’t give up, just keep going
Faith will quiet the worst fear
Coldest winters turn into spring
Even darkness must disappear
So don’t give up, just keep going
Keep carrying on
Keep carrying
Keep carrying on with courage
Keep carrying on
Keep carrying
Keep carrying on with courage
(Solo)
All your struggles will be worth it
In the end
Keep carrying on, with courage
Your breakthrough is arriving
Until then
Keep carrying on with courage
